Projects

In June 2022, we curated a permanent exhibition entitled “Spadai al mulino di Santa Libera.” In it we exhibited all the stages of making a sword: from iron ore to the complete sword. The work was created with the aim of reconstructing the original appearance of a sword dating back to the 17th century, having the few remains of such an artifact as the only reference. The original sword, found off the coast of Mattinata (FG) in Gargano, was probably lost when the shipwreck of the vessel carrying it occurred. On the blade, however, the name “FORMICANO” is still legible, and this find attests to the notoriety that Formegan, now a hamlet of the municipality of Santa Giustina, and its swordsmakers had achieved from the second half of the 16th century within and beyond the borders of the Republic of Venice.

The exhibition is on display at municipality of Santa Giustina (Piazza del Molino, 4, 32035, Belluno).
